RIGA, July 6 (LETA) - President Edgars Rinkevics and Justice Minister Edvards Smiltens (United List) discussed in a meeting on Monday the government's decision to establish procedures to compensate for damages resulting from military incidents, LETA was told at the president's office.

The officials discussed current issues and priorities at the Ministry of Justice, including ensuring the secure conduct of elections and strengthening the capacity and independence of the judiciary.

As reported, during a visiting session in Latgale, the government adopted regulations prepared by the Ministry of Justice regarding compensation for damages caused by military incidents in peacetime.

The regulations outline how the state will compensate residents, businesses, and public infrastructure for direct damage caused by drones and other military incidents.

The regulations are meant to ensure that, following such incidents, people know where to turn for assistance, within what timeframes decisions will be made, and according to which principles compensation will be awarded.
