RIGA, June 28 (LETA) - Over the past six months, residents’ assessment of the Riga City Council’s performance has deteriorated, according to the results of a survey conducted by the SKDS research center on behalf of the Riga City Council.

Compared to the results of a survey conducted in November 2025, residents’ satisfaction with the City Council’s work has decreased in May, with the index falling from minus 0.9 to minus 4.6. 46 percent of Riga residents surveyed rated the Riga City Council’s work negatively, while 43 percent rated it positively.

There is a significant difference in how Riga residents-citizens and non-citizens-evaluate the city council’s work. In May 2026, citizens rated the City Council’s work more favorably than respondents without citizenship. The rating index for citizens was +0.1, while that for non-citizens was -26.6.

Respondents aged 18 to 34, those with a higher education, those whose families speak primarily Latvian, those employed in the public sector, as well as survey participants with medium-high or high incomes, and residents of the Vidzeme, Kurzeme, and Zemgale suburbs had a more positive assessment.

In contrast, the city council’s work was viewed more critically by respondents aged 45 and older, those with a primary or secondary education, Russian speakers, those employed in the private sector, and residents of the Latgale suburb and the Northern District.

The survey was conducted in May of this year through face-to-face interviews at respondents’ homes, polling 804 residents registered in Riga between the ages of 18 and 75.
