Allied fighter jets performing low-altitude flights along Latvia's eastern border on Friday

RIGA, July 10 (LETA) - Allied fighter jets are performing low-altitude flights along Latvia's eastern border on Friday, the National Armed Forces informed LETA.

The Armed Forces have been working on military reinforcement of Latvia's eastern border since March 2024.

Since the Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, seven unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have crashed in Latvia. One drone was intercepted by NATO fighter aircraft.

The Armed Forces previously stressed that there was no basis for automatically assuming that all drones involved in these incidents were from Ukraine.

One of the drone incidents this past spring led to resignation of Defense Minister Andris Spruds (Progressives), and shortly afterward the entire government of Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity).
