RIGA, June 19 (LETA) - Current forecasts indicate that the long Midsummer weekend in Latvia will be mostly sunny and warm, with rain and thunderstorms expected only on Sunday and Midsummer Day which is on Tuesday.

Saturday will be sunny throughout the country, with light winds. Overnight temperatures will drop to +8..+14 degrees C, and in the afternoon they will reach +24..+28 degrees C; in some coastal areas, temperatures will remain a few degrees cooler.

On the night leading into Sunday, which will be the shortest night of the year, cloud cover will increase from the west of the country, with brief rain and thunderstorms possible in some areas. With a light south to southwest wind blowing, temperatures will not drop below +15..+19 degrees C, though in some eastern regions temperatures will cool to +13 degrees C.

On Sunday, the longest day of the year, there will be brief showers and thunder in many places; heavy downpours are expected in some areas throughout the day, with localized hail and strong gusts of wind possible. Maximum temperatures will range from +23 to +28 degrees C, and around +20 degrees C in parts of the coast.

On Monday, dry and sunny weather will return, with a light wind blowing from the west and north. At sunrise, temperatures will drop to +9..+15 degrees C; during the day, they will reach +20..+25 degrees C.

According to the latest forecasts, the weather on Tuesday, Midsummer Day, will also be mostly dry and sunny. With a light wind blowing from the north, the air temperature is expected to be about two degrees lower than on Monday.

Midsummer Night across Latvia is likely to be dry, with light winds and temperatures cooling to +8..+14 degrees C. On Midsummer Day, the chance of rain will increase, with thunderstorms also possible; temperatures are not expected to exceed +18 to +23 degrees C.

Moderate temperatures are forecast for the end of June, with rain expected on some days.
