Talsi Municipality to seek government aid following heavy rains

RIGA, July 21 (LETA) - Talsi Municipality, which was hit by heavy rains on Monday, plans to assess the damage within a week and seek government assistance, Talsi Municipality Chairman Ansis Berzins told LETA.

Flooding in Talsi Municipality, caused by heavy rainfall, does not currently pose a threat to residents' lives, but it is causing daily inconveniences as people have to take detours around closed road sections and sometimes go without electricity for a while, said Berzins.

According to Berzins, Monday's heavy rain has caused damage to many sections of state and municipal roads in Talsi Municipality. State road maintenance company Latvijas Valsts Celi (LVC) has closed several road sections where traffic is impossible due to washouts.

"Furthermore, rain is forecast for the next 48 hours, which could significantly worsen the situation," Berzins added.

Several buildings in Talsi and Talsi Municipality have been flooded. Power supply has been temporarily cut off for some of these buildings so they could be repaired.
