RIGA, Jul 21 (LETA) - The action plan of the Cabinet of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (Unites List), focuses primarily on budget stabilization and expenditure efficiency, as well as stabilizing the security situation and foreign affairs, according to the draft government work plan, which is scheduled to be decided upon by the government today.

Prime Minister Kulbergs told LETA on Monday after a coalition cooperation meeting that the initial version of his government’s action plan included 215 measures, but this number has been reduced to 150 because several of the proposals were not financially feasible.

Of these 150 measures, 37 are related to budget stabilization and expenditure efficiency. Among them are priority measures such as the publication of information on concluded procurement contracts starting from the first euro and their actual implementation, improving the competitiveness and pace of development of the defense industry, developing an action plan to ensure regional public transportation, and others. In total, the plan includes ten priority measures in this area.

Another 34 measures relate to stabilizing the security situation and foreign affairs. Of these, 17 have been identified as priority measures, including adopting Ukraine’s experience and integrating it into the defense sector, the transformation of the National Armed Forces by reorienting capability development toward the needs of modern warfare, as well as preventing the misuse of higher education programs for the purpose of unfair economic immigration.

Thirteen measures in the government’s action plan relate to ensuring secure elections and combating corruption and cartels. Three of these measures have been designated as priorities.

Similarly, of the 150 measures in the plan, nine relate to Latvia’s interests in the European Union’s multiannual budget for 2028-2034. Four of these are priority measures.

The overall plan also includes three measures related to the management and oversight of major projects, two of which are prioritized; 17 measures related to health, well-being, demographics, social security, and family policy, nine of which are priority measures, as well as 19 measures related to the economy and national economy, seven of which have been identified as government priorities.

The government’s action plan includes four measures related to education, sports, and youth, two of which are priorities, as well as 14 measures related to culture, media, and civil society, seven of which are prioritized.

In total, the plan includes 61 priority measures.

Of the excluded measures, 35 are nevertheless identified as ones that could be implemented, but only if the responsible ministers manage to secure the necessary funding for them. Meanwhile, 30 measures from the initial draft of the action plan have been deleted as insignificant, Kulbergs reported.

As previously reported, the Cabinet of Ministers did not yet decide last Tuesday on the approval of Kulbergs’ government action plan, as it is financially impossible to implement some of the measures outlined in it within the current budget, Finance Minister Maris Kucinskis (United List) told LETA on Monday following a meeting of the parties forming the government.
